Lessons and Classes
Private Lessons
All Things Rock specializes in one-on-one lessons for guitar and electric guitar, bass guitar, piano and keyboard, drums and drum set, and voice. Lessons can be taken at our studio, in your home, and in your home or office via the internet. Our teachers are all formed by years of professional experience as well as a lifetime of private study. In short, our teachers are true music education professionals and playing professionals, not just kids in bands. Trust us when we say there is a big difference. Our roster of teachers teaches both our private lessons and our group classes.
Class Descriptions
Guitar - Beginning
Learn the fundamentals of the instrument. Learn to read music and tablature for guitar, play leads and strum chords. Basic improvisation in a blues format will be explored. Students should be beginners. Student input into the curriculum is welcome. Piano - Beginning
Learn the fundamentals of the keyboard. Reading music, scales and technique are focused on to prepare the student to venture into classical, jazz, pop or rock. Student input into the curriculum is welcome. We provide instruments. All Ages. 6 one hour classes - $180. Music Theory
The basics of music will be covered in this introductory class. Perfect for an aspiring musician or instrumentalist with no background in theory. If you play by ear and need a background in music fundamentals, this is the class for you. If you're curious about music, this class provides a look at the landscape. Mom and Me
Introduce music and movement to your child through this nurturing and engaging class! Children between 2 and 5 years are welcome to enjoy activities that will inspire, teach and spark an interest in the creative world for a lifetime! Mom's Morning Out
Learning the piano has never been easier or more fun in this unique class! Enjoy a morning out with other Moms who share your desire to play music. We offer supportive, patient and flexible teachers who make learning fun and interesting! Give yourself a day that’s just for you - and bring music into your life at the same time, alongside other aspiring musicians. 6 one hour classes - $195. Drums - Beginning
Learn the basics of the beat. We'll begin with the fundamentals, how to hit the drum, how to hold the stick, learn rhythms and how to read music for drums. We'll progress to set playing and keeping time. Equipment provided. All Ages. 6 one hour classes - $180. Pop Star Vocals
Learn to sing pop standards and modern pop music in the style of modern pop stars. Learn vocal techniques like you hear on the radio, or see on television. Each student will perform for the class each week, singing a song picked in conjunction with the teacher. Equipment provided. Ages: All. 6 one hour classes - $180. Glee Singing
Sing in the style of the performers on the popular television show. We will explore the songs of the great American Songbook to provide historical context to modern musical theater. One vocal technique will be worked on each week. Student input is encouraged and students can choose what they will sing. Each student will perform one song each week. Kids Rock Workshop
Want to be in a band? We put kids in bands according to age group and skill level. Unlike other rock band programs in the area, we favor self-expression over imitation. Our bands write and record their own songs. Each six week session will write and record two or three songs, facilitated by the teacher but writtern entirely by the students. Adult Rock Workshop
Shake the rust off of your once-promising rock career. Play with adults of a similar skill level, jamming on material decided on by the group. Advanced Rock Workshop
If you are looking for people of an advanced skill level to jam with, this is the class for you. While we won't require an audition, we will ask questions and expect you to know keys, how to play with a metronome, and have facility on your instrument as well as a working knowledge of theory. This is for people who have been in bands before. Equipment provided although we expect you'll bring your own. Adult Ages. 8 two hour classes - $250. Classes Start: 12/5/09, 2/6/09, 4/3/10. The Jazz Workshop
The Jazz Workshop is Northern Virginia's premier destination for those looking to play jazz with a group. Conveniently located in Tysons Corner VA, we have sessions for musicians of all levels, from beginners to advanced, on all instruments.
We will place you in a group that is right for you. With eight groups meeting weekly, we have a group that will match your level of experience. We will give you the chance to grow as a musician, and all in a friendly, relaxed setting. Classes meet: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. The Vocal Workshop
The Vocal Workshop is an eight-week program designed to guide you in your journey towards becoming the jazz vocalist you want to be. We offer high-quality instruction in the art of jazz singing, in a

Jam Sessions
Jam sessions are our way of getting ATR's musician's together. Playing alone in your bedroom is a totally different experience than collaborating with other people. Playing in time, improvising, learning new songs and new licks are just a few of the ways a jam session will make everyone involved improve musically. On top of that, it's fun! Sessions are free for ATR clients, $25 for everyone else. Teachers and equipment provided to facilitate jamming. Ages 8-14. Jam Sessions are Sundays 12-2pm
